Only days until Big Disco hits town
With only a few days to go before Leeds hosts the Big Disco, final plans are in the pipeline to get people in the party mood
On Friday (July 1st), Leeds is throwing a spectacular party off Sheaf Street, behind Duke Studios and across the road from The Tetley, with everyone invited to get involved.
Guest of honour is the world’s largest disco ball, standing at two and a half times the size of a double decker bus, which will be suspended over the city and surrounded by a massive street party running from mid-afternoon into the early hours.
Revellers from toddlers to ravers to disco veterans can dance the day and night away, with Big Disco keeping the atmosphere diverse, exhilarating and family friendly with carnival performers, street food and Little Discos being held around Yorkshire all afternoon.
Organisers recently revealed details of the stellar DJ line–up to play at the event with names including Craig Charles, Alex Metric, Greg Wilson, Foz and Capital FM’s Adam, Danny & JoJo all hitting the deck. And headlining Yorkshire’s very own music heroes, Utah Saints, as well as Leeds based You Tube Sensations Brett Domino.
The main event will see an estimated audience in excess of 25,000, and steadily rising, simultaneously dance to one single track voted for by the public at 7.20pm. People will strut their stuff at venues in the city, the region and the UK – in Liverpool, at the famous Camp & Furnace club, and further afield in Bangkok, Thailand and Alaska!
Director at Duke Studios, Laura Wellington said: “I’m so happy we’ve created this unique and exciting event for Leeds this summer, really putting the city on the map as a creative, cultural city that knows how to have fun!”
Following the mass-dance, the party will roll on into the early hours with Mighty Mouse, Justin Robertson and Boe & LX on the decks, and fringe events taking place at major Leeds venues throughout, in a celebration of community.
Other events going on include:
Leeds Arena is getting in the party mood, lighting up in disco colours.
Contenders for this year’s Leeds West Indian Carnival Kings & Queens (20 in total) will be on-site for the big dance moment and evening’s entertainment.
