Details of the presenter, headline acts and nominations for the 2016 Audio and Radio Industry Awards (ARIAS) have been unveiled as the countdown to the event continues.

BBC Radio 2’s Sara Cox will host the awards ceremony at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Wednesday October 19th, with live performances from the Kaiser Chiefs, Rick Astley and Gregory Porter.

The newly launched awards, organised by The Radio Academy and supported by Leeds Beckett University and LeedsBID, recognise talent, innovation and excellence across the entire audio and radio industry.  A total of 16 awards including Best Podcast, Best Local Station, Best National Station and Best Sports Show will be presented, with BBC Radio Leeds’ Liz Green nominated in the Best Local Breakfast Show category.

Andrew Cooper, LeedsBID Chief Executive said: “It is great to see momentum gathering for the ARIAS as Leeds looks forward to hosting this high profile event to be attended by some of the big names in industry as well as providing a platform to showcase some of our home grown talent.”

Andrew Fryer, Dean of The School of Film, Music and Performing Arts at Leeds Beckett University said: “We are excited to see that the Kaiser Chiefs will be performing, particularly since the band includes two of our own graduates back in their home city. We are very much looking forward to the event which will give our students, particularly across Music, Filmmaking, Broadcast Media, Journalism, PR and Events, some fantastic opportunities to work on a large scale event in a range of roles which will no doubt help to inspire the radio industry talent of the future.”
