Leeds becomes a giant board game as Trivial Pursuit takes over the city for 400-year celebration

Leeds is set to become a giant board game this summer as Trivial Pursuit arrives in the city centre to celebrate a landmark moment in its history.

To mark 400 years since Leeds was granted its royal charter, LeedsBID is transforming the city into a live interactive version of Hasbro’s iconic Trivial Pursuit board game, inviting residents and visitors to test their knowledge of all things Leeds. Running from 25 July to 30 August 2026, the free experience will see participants journey across the city centre answering questions and collecting wedges, just like the classic trivia game.

Key locations will represent the six traditional Trivial Pursuit categories: Entertainment, Geography, Sports & Leisure, Science and Nature, History, and Art & Literature. There will be classic and junior questions to ensure the experience appeals to all ages. One of the central locations will be the spectacular Brodrick Hall inside Leeds City Museum, named after architect Cuthbert Brodrick, who designed several of the city’s most iconic buildings.

Following the huge success of the MONOPOLY Leeds Takeover in summer 2024, LeedsBID is once again working with leading game, IP and toy company Hasbro to bring another of its iconic games to life. This time, the focus is firmly on the stories, achievements and surprising facts that have shaped Leeds over four centuries.

And there is no shortage of trivia to discover. From the origins of Marks & Spencer to connections with the first British internet provider and even the story of carbonated water, Leeds has played a remarkable role in national life. The city is also home to famous names including Peter O’Toole, Melanie Brown, Marco Pierre White and Beryl Burton, alongside countless innovators, artists, sporting heroes and cultural pioneers.

Players will travel from category to category, testing their knowledge of Leeds’ historical moments, notable achievements, people and places. Correct answers earn wedges, and once all six are collected, participants will face a final question to complete the game.

It’s a celebration of 400 years of Leeds, told one question at a time.
