Westminster students Leeds-bound to explore opportunities on offer

A group of University of Westminster students spent the day in the city to help enhance their employability by exploring the range of opportunities on offer to them outside of London.

The visit, hosted by LeedsBID at its Engine Room premises in City Exchange, saw 40+ undergraduates in Leeds (on Friday 29th April) as part of a project providing experiences of work insights and employment culture in a range of major cities.

The visit was part of the Westminster Working Cultures (WWC) UK programme, supporting students in understanding the employment opportunities available in Leeds, introducing them to new connections and broadening their perspective while helping build confidence and skills.

The day included sessions with city centre employers, some of whom are Westminster graduates who shared details of their professional journeys and experience of working in the city.

The group were welcomed to Leeds by LeedsBID Chief Executive Andrew Cooper before hearing from We Are Social Enterprise (WASE) and SPARK at the University of Leeds and enjoying a talk from a Westminster alumnus, a Senior Creative Producer at Channel 4. There will also visits to the historic City Varieties Music Hall and a workshop ran by Leeds Grand Theatre.

Tierney Holloway, Senior Alumni Officer (WWC UK) said:

“This was a fantastic opportunity to expand the career horizons of Westminster’s students, while building their confidence to explore a future beyond London. Spending the day and networking with speakers and colleagues from LeedsBID was a unique learning experience for our students, transforming their perceptions of culture and the working environment in Leeds.”
