2026 – Happy Birthday Leeds

2026 – Happy Birthday Leeds

Leeds is now in its 400th Anniversary Year of its first Royal Charter granted by King Charles I on July 13, 1626.  Happy Birthday Leeds!

The city has a lot to look forward in the year ahead and in the 2026-what-we-know-so-far article on our Welcome to Leeds platform, you will get a positive insight into what’s in store.

LeedsBID has been working hard behind the scenes and collaborating with partners across the city to create a very special 400th year celebration this summer.  A teaser can be found in the Government’s mention of Leeds in its Pride in Place Strategy last autumn (see p29).

We continue to focus on business plan priorities around creating a ‘Welcoming City’.  Our Street Rangers Team has been expanded along with new equipment – read more here LeedsBID boosts investment and expands essential street cleaning team to keep pace with a growing city.

Alongside this, we have continued our commitment to build and run the city’s Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BACIL).  Over the busy Christmas period, the team has supported the retail and leisure sector in preventing crime and working with the police and statutory agencies to make Leeds city centre safe.  It is only through collaboration and working together that we can truly tackle these issues and make Leeds a more welcoming city.

Finally, new year means new year’s resolutions. If you are thinking “I must do that training course” or “try something new”, please do take a look at the array of free training we offer our levy paying businesses here – Training at LeedsBID. New courses are released each quarter and regularly reviewed to meet growing demand.

Thank you for your continued support of Leeds Business Improvement District.

Here’s to a very exciting year ahead for the city.
