LeedsBID is stepping up its commitment to a clean, vibrant and welcoming city centre with increased investment in its invaluable Street Rangers team.
Operating seven days a week, the Street Rangers have become a familiar and reassuring presence across Leeds, raising cleanliness standards and enhancing the physical welcome for everyone who lives, works and spends time in the city.
Now, building on nine years of success, the team is growing in people, in reach, and in the power of the equipment they use.
LeedsBID has expanded the number of Street Rangers, increased the geographical area they cover, and introduced new industry-leading green and electric technology. This enhanced kit enables deeper, more efficient cleans of high-footfall pavements, walkways and pedestrianised zones, and allows the team to tackle graffiti in areas where chemicals can’t be used – resulting in more streets reached, more frequent proactive cleans, and an even more responsive service.
Launched in 2016 as one of LeedsBID’s very first city enhancements, the Street Rangers have become an essential part of Leeds’ daily rhythm.
Their work goes far beyond keeping things tidy: from street washing to chewing gum removal, from major deep cleans to rapid-response callouts on both public and private property, they are the team businesses rely on to keep Leeds looking its best.
Demand continues to rise. In the past year alone, the team has completed more than 50 large-scale deep cleans across key city centre locations and responded to over 2,000 individual business requests. Since the service began, the rangers have carried out an estimated 800+ deep cleans, the equivalent of cleaning from Leeds to London, alongside more than 23,000 daily reactive cleans.
“The LeedsBID Street Rangers are one of our most impactful additions to Leeds city centre, making a visible difference to the streets beneath people’s feet,” said LeedsBID Chief Executive Andrew Cooper.
“Their enormous impact on the aesthetics of Leeds has created an ever-increasing demand and growing expectation from the city and businesses, who now rightly prioritise this vital service. LeedsBID is committed to continuing to invest in and strengthen this essential team while working alongside multiple facilities partners to ensure the city shines.”
