Transforming Leeds city centre into a gallery
It’s Proper Art saw a series of temporary installations in the form of art gallery descriptions appear on iconic buildings, businesses and locations, ranging from the Corn Exchange and Leeds Station to Wellington Place Lifting Tower and on an actual water taxi in Leeds Dock, for people to stumble upon and read or actively hunt them all out with the help of a digital map.
The text – fiction micro-stories themed by the location – portrayed the sites as part of a work of art, showing them in a whole new light.
“With stories written as faux art gallery descriptions displayed in a variety of participating businesses, It’s Proper Art implies that art is everywhere – not just in an art gallery – and encourages people to look closer to find inspirational stories in everyday places.”— Steve Clarkson
